Gateshead manufacturer Gate 7 to create 30 jobs with expansion into India

Gate 7 is launching a new manufacturing plant in India

A Tyneside manufacturer has expanded its global footprint by opening a new base in India.

Gateshead-based Gate 7, which makes self-adhesive labels and screen prints for construction, agricultural and industrial equipment and vehicles, was set up in 2000 and also has a base in Pennsylvania, US, offering printing services. The firm, which has 65 staff based in the UK and 60 in US, has now grown its global operations by launching a new 15,000 sq ft manufacturing plant in Pune, India.

Bosses said the new facility will play an integral part in Gate 7’s international growth strategy and the company is also recruiting a further 30 employees to support its broadened customer base. The family firm initially focused on the off highway market and later expanded into the agriculture, construction, industrial and rental markets, diversification which has seen the business add international organisations including JCB, Volvo, Hitachi, Komatsu and Bobcat to its client list.

A recruitment drive is now under way for staff ahead of the plant’s launch this autumn.

Harry Wickham, managing director of Gate 7, said: “We are immensely proud to be opening our new manufacturing plant in India. It is a very important milestone in the Gate 7 journey as the facility will provide a gateway for us to connect with our customers across the globe and continue to grow alongside them.

“A lot of the organisations we work with have an international presence with multiple locations, and although cultures may change, the brand remains. We therefore strive to develop products and solutions that enhance safety, market their brand and improve equipment aesthetics.

“Our new plant will enable us to offer an even better service to our existing customers in India, as well as providing a platform for growth in this expanding market. Production is due to start in October and we are in the process of employing a talented team to help drive innovation, which will be headed up by our plant manager, Ajay Kumar.”
